    Cruise the diverse Pacific coast of South America, from mysterious Incas to majestic icebergs, and cross to the icy continent of Antarctica.

     

    Your adventure begins in Lima, where you’ll catch a flight to Cusco, the culture-rich capital of the Inca empire. From here, board a classic train ride through the mountains to the ‘Lost City’ of Machu Picchu.

     

    Back in Lima, board your expedition ship and begin cruising down the Pacific coast. From the abundant wildlife of the Ballestas Islands and the sun-drenched beaches of Arica to the Atacama Desert and historic La Serena, each day will be a journey of discovery.

     

    Continuing south, explore the colorful UNESCO-listed city of Valparaíso before venturing to Patagonia. Vast fjords, rugged mountains, and icebergs will accompany you as we call at charming Castro, isolated Puerto Edén, and breathtaking Puerto Natales. We may even land at Cape Horn when cruising through the Beagle Channel to reach the tip of South America, if conditions allow.

    After crossing the Drake Passage, you’ll arrive at the frozen continent of Antarctica. As it is late spring, the icebergs will be pristine and the penguins will be nest-building. No two days here are the same. Our flexible itinerary allows us to adapt to weather and wildlife, ensuring you have an unforgettable time in Antarctica.

    DAY 1 LIMA, PERU - The ‘City of Kings’

    Wedged between the Pacific Ocean and the Andes, Lima is Peru’s biggest city, a place where traditions converge in an exciting cocktail of culture and cuisine. 

     

    DAY 2 Visit the Sillustani tombs

    Your day starts with a flight to Juliaca. Once there, we will take you on a guided tour of the Sillustani tombs, a pre-Inca burial place overlooking Lake Umayo.

     

    After exploring this archeological marvel, continue to your hotel in Puno, on the banks for Lake Titicaca. This will be your home for the next two nights.

     

    DAY 3 Uru community at Lake Titicaca

    The sheer beauty of Lake Titicaca will amaze you. Visit the rural community of Llachón, which has spectacular views over the lake. Enjoy a guided kayaking tour on the peaceful, deep blue waters. You will also join a guided walk before joining a local family for a traditional lunch.

     

    DAY 4 Altiplano Path

    The Altiplano is one of the world’s largest and highest plateaus, sitting over 12,000 ft above sea level. The vast plateau extends into Bolivia, northern Peru, and southern Chile. During this full day of adventure, you’ll pass through breathtaking scenery and be awed by the imposing Andes.

     

    Day 5 Mystical Machu Picchu

    Start your day with a transfer to Ollantaytambo in the Sacred Valley. Then we board the deluxe Hiram Bingham train to Machu Picchu, enjoying brunch while the breathtaking Andean scenery rolls past.

     

    After your day’s adventure, we’ll head to Cusco for a relaxing overnight stay.

     

    DAY 6 Imperial Cusco

    You can admire some of the finest examples of Inca history and architecture here. These include the Santo Domingo church, built over the Inca temple of Koricancha, and the Sacsayhuamán fortress, a 15th-century ceremonial compound featuring panoramic views of the city. 

     

    You will then catch a transfer to the airport and fly to Lima for a relaxing overnight stay.

     

    DAY 7 Ancient and modern Lima

    We’ll delve into Lima’s extraordinary blend of ancient and modern on today’s guided panoramic bus tour.

     

    In the late afternoon, you will catch a transfer to Callao, where your expedition ship will be ready and waiting. Take time to locate your cabin, explore the ship, and meet the Expedition Team.

     

    DAY 8 Ballestas and Nazca

    Among Peru’s most notable attractions are the Nazca Lines and the Ballestas Islands, both of which are accessible from Paracas.

     

    Known as El Chaco, the town has an array of restaurants along the main shorefront where you can enjoy traditional jalea – fried seafood with salsa criolla (Creole sauce) and yuca root. Just offshore are the wildlife-rich Ballestas Islands. On today’s boat tour, look for Humboldt penguins, turtles, pelicans, sea lions, Inca terns, and humpback whales as you cruise around the islands.

     

    DAY 9 Clear skies, cool climate

    As we cruise towards Chile, we’ll sail through the Humboldt Current. The cold-water environment here creates conditions that sustain an incredible abundance of marine life, including vast shoals of anchovies, mackerel, and sardines. 

     

    DAY 10 Sunny Arica

    Arica experiences a year-round desert climate and is classed as one of the driest cities in the world, unusual for a place by the ocean. No wonder the city is popular with sunbathers and surfers.

     

    DAY 11 Iquique and the Atacama Desert

    We’ll visit the abandoned saltpeter mining towns of Santa Laura and UNESCO-listed Humberstone in the arid Atacama Desert. Back in Iquique, explore this cosmopolitan oceanside city on foot, or simply pull up a chair in a café and do some people watching.

     

    DAY 12 AT SEA - Relax on board

     

    DAY 13 Stunning La Serena

    Docking at the port of Coquimbo, we’ll head to Chile’s second-oldest city, La Serena.La Serena is blessed with beautiful sandy beaches all along Avenida del Mar and beyond. Bursting with colonial architecture, there are around 30 carefully restored stone churches to discover. 

     

    DAY 14 VALPARAÍSO, CHILE - UNESCO’s `Jewel of the Pacific´

    Built on steep hillsides overlooking a picturesque bay, Valparaíso is a maze of monuments, churches, historical funiculars (cable cars), trendy neighborhoods, cobblestone alleys, colorful houses, and charming plazas.

     

    DAY 15-16 - AT SEA - Enlightenment on the waves

     

    DAY 17 CASTRO, CHILE - ANCHORED - FULL DAY - Capital of Chiloé Island

    Tucked away off a fjord on Chiloé Island, Castro has slowly evolved into a cosmopolitan capital with a classic Chilote character. You will want to see for yourself the brightly painted, wooden stilt houses lining the edges of the fjord at Gamboa wharf.

     

    DAY 18 AT SEA - Sailing south

     

    DAY 19 Remote Puerto Edén

    The tiny settlement is only accessible by sea, and the ferry that connects it to the mainland only visits once a month. There are no roads here – just wooden boardwalks connecting houses and shops. Its 250 inhabitants include some of the last remaining members of the Indigenous Kawésqar people. 

     

    DAY 20-21 PUERTO NATALES, CHILE - FULL DAY - Bohemian bars with Andean views

    Blessed with gorgeous views of the southern Andes, this city is the gateway to Torres del Paine National Park. You could take a full-day optional excursion to the national park, or spend some time exploring the Bohemian bars, shops, corrugated tin houses, and eateries of Puerto Natales.

     

    DAY 22 CHILEAN FJORDS - Going with the flow

    We continue our southward journey down the coast through the many islands and fjords of Chile’s rugged Magallanes Province. 

     

    DAY 23-24 AT SEA - Cape Horn and the Drake Passage

     

    DAY 25-28 ANTARCTIC PENINSULA - The fabled frozen continent

    At last, Antarctica! Welcome to a unique environment of glaciers, ice shelves, and gigantic icebergs. For four days, we’ll explore the vast, frozen territories of the Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetland Islands.

     

    DAY 29-30 AT SEA - Back from the bottom of the world

     

    DAY 31 USHUAIA / BUENOS AIRES - A fond farewell

    After arriving in Ushuaia, transfer to the airport for your flight to Buenos Aires. It’s up to you whether you fly home directly or spend a few extra days exploring the city. Ready for more? Add on a Post-Program to the magnificent Iguazú Falls on the Brazilian border.
